Throughout the semester I feel that my writing as improved greatly. I plan on putting a lot of effort in my final project in order to receive an A on it and feel that my chances of receiving an A overall are high. I probably could have revised my second paper but since I received a 90% on it I decided not to. As far as my papers went, I think I did each of them to the best of my ability. I was a few minutes late once or twice but besides that I was always present before class began. My class participation was very good and I rarely missed class. I could have done better by completing my blog assignments earlier in the week to ensure that I did not forget about them, like I did twice. During each of the two meetings I had about my papers my instructor supplied all the guidance I needed to properly finish the assignment. I did not utilize any of the instructor’s office hours because I did not feel that I needed to. I turned in all of my assignments well before their deadlines and took each of the writing workshops seriously with my partner. I turned in most of the weekly blog assignments and only missed a few days of class. I participated actively in class discussions, completed the required readings before class, and turned in all of my papers. I feel that my performance in this class was quite good. After writing each of these papers, I feel that I have fulfilled all of the expected criteria laid out in the syllabus. For each paper, I had to make slight changes to my writing style and implement new elements like dialogue and citations. Each of the assignments in this course connected in that they each required a unique tone and set of skills to complete.
The work I did in this course with inevitably help me once I find a career path that suites me. For my career, I will likely have to write many reports and e-mails to many different people and having strong grammar skills is absolutely necessary. In business, it is vital to have strong English abilities and be able to articulate and organize your thoughts on your feet. This course has a large amount to do with my major because I am currently on the path to attend the College of Business my junior year. This course also taught me about the different types of rhetoric used in all pieces of writing: ethos, pathos and logos. After this course, I should be able to focus on a purpose, respond to the benefits of different audiences, adopt appropriate voice, tone, and level of maturity, and write in several genres. For each paper, we spent a class trading and evaluating each other’s work.
In addition to working to improve my own writing abilities, I also participated in workshops in order to improve my peers writing abilities. I wrote three separate papers in which I worked specifically on writing in vivid detail, including dialogue in my work, and writing a memoir-styled collection of experiences. This class also fulfilled one gordon-rule requirement. The purpose of taking this ENC 1101 course was to enhance my writing abilities and fulfill my pre-requisites for my major.
